Pets undergo many lifestyle changes later in life, and changes
in the eating habits and energy levels of senior pets should be noted.
Many mature pets require a change in diet and exercise regimens in
order maintain good health and mobility.
The veterinary needs of your pet will begin to change as it ages
and further examinations and tests are necessary to support good
health. In aging pets, we do a senior profile to assess needs.
Urinalysis, 25 chemistry, CBC (blood work) and x-rays are recommended for all dogs and cats over eight years of age and large dogs over six years of age. Additional diagnostics such as thyroid testing, ECG's and Echocardiograms are recommended on a case by case basis.
It is important to remember that pets age much more quickly that
humans and regular screenings are the best way to prevent
complications and promote effective treatment.
